Add people as friends to easily see who’s online, start a Party, and play together. Age-checked users can now unlock enhanced communication features with trusted friends, with more features coming soon.
Eligibility and Access
Our Age Estimation process assigns age groups, which determine feature access and friend eligibility.
- Parental Approval: Users under 13 will need parent approval for each trusted friend. In specific regions, parental approval is required for a broader range of age groups to meet local regulations.
- Safety Restrictions: Teens (13-17) cannot create a trusted friend with an adult (18+) unless using real-life connection methods like live QR code scanning and contact importing.
- Regional Availability: Availability for trusted friends varies by country. While we are rolling this feature to more countries over time, it may not be available in your region yet.
What are trusted friends?
Trusted friends are a subset of your overall friends who you know and trust.
Just like regular friends, trusted friends are a two-way connection. Both users must agree to add each other as a trusted friend to unlock these features. If either user removes the other, the connection is downgraded to a regular friendship.
Depending on your age group and region, you may unlock:
- Chat Features: Access to features like Party Voice and chat without filters, allowing for more natural and direct communication. Over time, we’ll bring you new ways to share, communicate, and interact with trusted friends.
- Team Create in Roblox Studio: Collaborate in real time with other creators in Roblox Studio, making it easy to quickly build experiences together live.
- Experience Chat and Voice: Standard filters remain active in experience to ensure a safe environment for the broader community.
- Content Access: View and interact with content created by your trusted friends.
- Privacy Settings: Customize your experience by selecting "Trusted friends" as a specific audience in your privacy settings.

Maintaining a Safe Environment
While trusted friends offer greater communication freedom, all conversations on Roblox, including those within trusted friends, remain proactively monitored for critical harm (e.g., grooming) by Roblox to maintain a safe and positive experience.
Removing or reporting trusted friends
You can tap Remove trusted friend from their profile menu to downgrade them to a regular friend, or you can also tap Remove friend to remove them from your friends entirely.
Our standard violation reporting still applies to trusted friends, and you can report a trusted friend at any time just like a regular friend.
